2nd Pregnancy Week 10

I’ve been feeling ill and crook – hence the dreadful neglect of this blog, and my emails.  It seems like a really dreadful time that I’ve suddenly been hit by a tonne of spam mail, too, though I’m still baffled by how the heck they managed to find me…

What is about about a little baby that makes a woman lose her mind and willingly subject herself to physical and emotional torture for 9 months?  Okay, the first time around you can claim ignorance – kind of like the first time I agreed to run a full marathon.  So maybe there is something to be said about this “post-natal amnesia” after all…

And then when you get pregnant again, you remember exactly why you said you weren’t going to have another baby after the last one.  Well, I had been perfectly content to stop at one, but even I felt it was too lonely for Gavin not to have a sibling so I relented and tried for number two.  Okay, okay, seeing those cute, adorable little bundles also had something to do with it – but this is seriously the LAST one!

I don’t know how other Mums cope, especially those who have a more difficult time during pregnancy.  It’s bad enough having morning sickness for the duration of the first trimester, I can’t imagine having to endure it for the whole nine months!

Symptoms and developments:

  • It appears I am not so immune to sensitive nipples as I had thought.  Nursing Gavin is starting to hurt – thankfully, it is still bearable.  Although it remains to be seen whether it remains as it is or if it gets worse.
  • Still nauseous – some days are worse than others.
  • Still very tired – sleeping a lot more these days (hence my absence on the internet).
  • My body is starting to change – chest is getting wider and my baby bump is starting to show (I don’t remember if it started showing this early the last time, although I was surprised at how quickly my hips widened).  I brought a pair of pants down to Singapore which used to be a little loose on me before the pregnancy and I couldn’t even button it!  Time to bring out the pregnant clothes…
  • Also developing headaches that are almost blinding in nature – it feels as though someone is crushing my right eyeball.  Hubby reckons it is because I sleep too much, while my SIL2 thought it might be because I’m dehydrated.  Possible, possible…  we’ll see.

Another 2-3 weeks before I hit second trimester.  I can hardly wait…

  1. There has to be some sort of disconnect that occurs in a woman’s brain. I know there have been times when I’ve waxed about the loveliness of my son’s newborn stage and how a second child might be nice.

At these points, my husband stares with all but his jaw hanging as he finally says, “Have you forgotten how he didn’t sleep through the night until after his first birthday?”

“Oh, yeah,” says I. “I had forgotten, actually.”

On the bright side, everybody tells me that the second child is usually easier.

Here’s hoping that Gavin loves being a big brother and that the rest of your pregnancy is a nice and sweet cruise.

  2. Thanks! Gavin’s reception of the idea of a sibling looks promising so far, but that might be because he hasn’t fully grasped what it means to have a sibling.

Yes, I’ve also heard that the second child is easier and I guess that’s because we don’t have to learn everything all over again. But then I sometimes wonder because now you have to deal with two rather than just one so how does it become easier? Ah well, I suppose I’ll find out soon enough…

Since it’s a done deal, I’m just focusing on enjoying the adorable little bundle. However, the next time I get sentimental again, I think I’ll watch the videos instead :-p
