Nurture Shock: A Summary

Finally got my hot little hands on a copy of Nurture Shock: New Thinking about Children by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman.  After scouring the bookstores, I discovered a copy at Kinokuniya in KLCC and Times Bookstore in Pavilion.  If you’re looking for your own copy, I suggest you get it from Times because it’sContinue reading “Nurture Shock: A Summary”

The New Science of Parenting: Nurture Shock

My BFF recently brought this book to my attention – it’s called “Nurture Shock: New Thinking about Children“. About a year or so back I wrote about an article I read in Scientific American Mind that talked about how telling children they are smart can actually have a negative effect on their intellectual development.  PoContinue reading “The New Science of Parenting: Nurture Shock”

Sights and Sounds: PetroSains Discovery Center

Home Schooling – Week Two in Review

Since we’re into the early days of my homeschooling experience with Gavin, I thought I should keep up the practice of reviewing the activities we did in the previous week so that I may better learn from them and improve upon my “curriculum” for future weeks.  My original plan was to run a timetable withContinue reading “Home Schooling – Week Two in Review”

Sights and Sounds: The Planetarium and KLCC Art Gallery

After our rather successful day out at Sunway Pyramid, I was inspired to take Gavin to see more things.  One of the subjects I have been trying to introduce Gavin to is Astronomy and the planets.  I bought this book and mobile and showed him the planets some time back. Not surprisingly, he wasn’t thatContinue reading “Sights and Sounds: The Planetarium and KLCC Art Gallery”

Practicalities of Being a Textbook Mum

I’ve often been accused of being too much of a textbook Mum and that I ought to listen more to my own instincts or to follow the age-old parenting advice that has been passed on from generation to generation.  Well, here is where I get into a bit of a fix… 1. Listening to my own instincts IContinue reading “Practicalities of Being a Textbook Mum”
