A common Right Brain Education activity is the tangram puzzle or iroita puzzle. For more details on these activities, check out the following articles:
You can easily make your own tangrams, or get an affordable set from a toy store like Toys R Us. If you have an iPad or iPod, you can get ready access to tangram puzzles with the following apps:
- My first Tangrams – this is really great for the younger children
- TanZen
- LetsTans – this one is great because it offers a variety of difficulties for all age groups.
I also really like Osmo Tangram because it combines the iPad with physical tangram pieces for children to manipulate. There are different levels to match your child’s individual ability. As your child gets better, you can remove the hints for a bigger challenge.
If you get bored of Tangrams, you can try these alternative activities:
- Think Fun Puzzles
- Jigsaw Puzzles
- Blocks – encourage your child to make patterns with coloured blocks
- Lego – Duplo
There are also alternative tangram activities available for the iPad/iPod that we enjoy:
- Zentomino
- Pentanimals – like Zentomino but with cute animal pictures for kids.
- TriZen
