Mid-Brain Activation and Blind-Fold Reading

I’ve been asked to share what I think about Mid-Brain Activation and Blind-Fold Reading.  Well, here goes…

From what I have read on their two websites (click the links above to see what they’re about), they make a lot of references to Makoto Shichida’s Right Brain Development philosophies which leads me to believe that they are founded on Shichida’s principles.  In fact, blind-fold reading sounds a lot like Quantum Speed Reading as described by Yumiko Tobitani – and since Tobitani was a teacher at the Shichida academy, I suppose that is why they all tie in together.

In her book, Tobitani also talks about using a blindfold as a means to developing the QSR ability. QSR is the ability to absorb the contents of a book without reading it.  It can be done through several methods – flying into the book, fanning the pages of the book, or “reading” it blind-folded.  The concept is that you absorb the information through the waves emitted by the book based on the theory of quantum mechanics that everything around us has its own wave pattern.  Tobitani believes that blind-folding can facilitate the development of the QSR ability (provided you do all the exercises properly).

Talking about QSR and blind-fold reading invites a lot of skepticism.  As I’ve written before, QSR (along with ESP)  is a part of right brain education and to leave it out would be to report only half the story.  Do I believe in QSR and ESP?  Well, I believe in right brain education and I believe in the philosophies that they teach.  I am amazed by what the children who have been through right brain education are able to do – speed reading, rapid mental math, perfect pitch, sports excellence.  If they can achieve such excellence, why not QSR and ESP?  Why not the ability to heal?

In TweedleWink, Pamela Hickein also talks about how children have the ability to learn in a 360 degree fashion.  They don’t necessarily need to look directly at material in order to learn it.  I don’t know about you, but being able to learn about something that is happening behind you sounds  like blind-fold reading, too.  So I think we can conclude that Mid-Brain Activation / Blind-Fold Reading is part of the right brain pedagogy.

The good news about Blind-Fold Reading is that they have a lot more video footage available on Youtube showing what children can do compared to Shichida, Heguru, or TweedleWink.  Check out the following video for example…

For the skeptics: yes, I realise that a video can be rigged and that video footage is not conclusive evidence that something is true.  Well, I’m not here to convince you to believe in right brain education or the things it can do.  I merely report the findings and you can choose to believe it or not.  What do I believe?  I still don’t know, but I am intensely curious about QSR and ESP.  I have been since I was a child.  I also send both my sons for right brain education and supplement their classes with right brain activities at home.  I guess that means that I do believe in it.

  1. Hi Shen-Li
Thanks for your review of Midbrain Activation.
I can assure you that the video is not rigged.
I was present for more than 3 different sessions of Blindfold reading conducted by my good friend, David Ting.
My 10 year old niece was able to read blindfolded and her book upside down. You can Sri Lankan children dancing, playing basket-ball, all the while heavily blindfolded.

  2. I’m curious, Raymond – why did you ask me to review Midbrain Activation if you already know it works?

I think you’ve been very privileged to have been present for those sessions. I wish I could have seen that then perhaps I would be more compelling when I write about it.

Right now, I have no doubts about the benefits of Right Brain Education and all those amazing abilities that come with it. But I’m afraid I stop short at ESP with a part in me desiring it to be true and the scientific skeptic in me telling me not to be a fool.

I’ve read so many examples of children being able to do these things I ought to be convinced but I guess I’m still very much a “see it to believe it” person. In some ways I believe the “seeing” process is a necessary part because it helps to overcome the negative barriers.

Let me explain… I was watching a group of rock climbers working on a particularly nasty route one day. Nobody could climb it. They kept taking turns trying and trying until one by one, they started to give up. Words like “impossible” and “can’t be done” were echoing from the group. Until one boy made it. Suddenly, the rest of the group was back climbing and climbing until they all made it – one by one. It was like witnessing that it could be done with their own eyes opened up their minds to the possibility and that made it possible but until they saw it, they were closed to the idea that it was possible. I suppose Blind-Fold reading and ESP is very much like that for some of us…

  3. Hi… I am David Ting, the person Raymond mentioned to you. I have been conducting the blindfold reading method for many years. It so amazing and too good to believe about the benefits.

I can assure you that it is possible for children to “see” using the brain. This is due to the brainwaves emitted, just like the radar. I just purchase a few instruments that can be used to measure the brainwaves and it is really fascinating to know that it is tangible through some computer software and so on.

At present, I have thousands of students already. It cannot be wrong. Our brain is extremely powerful. Let us help the next generation to maximise the use of the brain power that is in them.

  4. Hi David. It is a real pleasure to hear from you. I have been looking at your website but I’ve noticed you don’t have any centers in KL. Is there a plan for that in future? How old are the children you teach? If I was interested to send my son for midbrain activation, how could that be done? What are the fees?

  5. Yes, I have a center at the moment in Puchong. Another center will be ready by next month. I expect to see many more center in West Malaysia in the near future.

The fee is RM1,200 and we provide customer satisfaction for children below 12 years old. That means children can come back for a free repeat if necessary. Please contact me by email if you are keen to send your son. We are going to have class in March, both in English and Chinese languages.

    1. Hi Jenny,

I did not in the end. The course is pretty expensive and my son is questionably receptive to special classes so I didn’t feel it was worth it for us. I am intensely curious about it, though.
